A 3D mammogram (breast tomosynthesis) takes images from multiple angles so your radiologist can see through overlapping tissue more clearly than a traditional 2D mammogram. Most women of average risk start annual screening mammograms at age 40.
A diagnostic mammogram gives a closer, more detailed look when a screening mammogram finds something that needs follow-up, or when you have a symptom like a lump, breast pain, or nipple discharge.
Breast ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, to take a closer look at a or area of concern. It is also used as supplemental screening for women with dense breast tissue.
If imaging tinds an area that needs a closer Iook, a minimally invasive breast biopsy can tell you whether it is benign (noncancerous) or cancer. We Offer ultrasound guided breast biopsy for masses and stereotactic breast biopsy for calcifications.
